2,000 "Likes" Facebook Give Away

I said I was going to cook supper before I announced the give away, but I couldn't wait! I am so grateful to all my Facebook Friends, your support, love, humor, and shared information are so wonderful... I want to just give you all a big hug! I am amazed and completely humbled by the outpouring of support you have shown and the fast rate that the Canning Granny Facebook page is growing... I'm pleasantly surprised every day. You folks make every day brighter. And I just want to do a little something to let you all know how appreciated you are...

Supper is on the stove... I have chicken stewing to make chicken and dumplings on this rainy, gloomy, chilly evening... yep, it's definitely a chicken and dumplings sort of evening!

The give away is this... a trio of hand crocheted dish cloths... made 'em myself using 100% cotton yarn... they should last and last and last... I have been using one I made earlier and I love the mesh ones... they clean the dishes so nicely, the mesh adds a little gentle scrubbiness... and then I hang it over the sink and it dries much more quickly than my old "store-boughten" dish cloths.

I wanted to think of some fantastically creative way to do this give away... some sort of contest, or quiz, or something... but couldn't come up with anything... But, always up for a little foolishness and silliness, I decided...

And.... without further ado...

Here's what I would like for you folks to do if you are interested in owning these three dish cloths, a token of my extreme appreciation...

Every item should have more than one purpose, don't you think? And if you owned these dish cloths, I'm sure you would use them for their intended purpose... washing dishes...

But... can you think of another, maybe outlandish, silly, crazy, or foolish use for these dish cloths? In a comment below, along with your name (PLEASE include your name, last time I had a few Anonymous folks with no name and I had to throw those out, I do NOT want to have to do that!), include another purpose you might use these dish cloths for... the more outlandish and silly, the better... this is all in fun! I can't wait to read your creative and fun uses for the humble crocheted dish cloth ;-)

And, again, thank you from the bottom of my heart, for all your support!

We'll do a random drawing THIS Saturday morning... January 28!

~~Canning Granny

  1. Doilies! However, that's not very silly or outlandish. If I was young and carefree a bikini!

  2. Well, they are pretty enough to use for a doily. Hmmm silly...Sorry to let you down. I'm totally blank!!!

I have used them as face and body wash cloths . I love them for dish cloths most of all.

  4. I love the beautiful rainbow pastel colors..

  5. Oh, but a nice use would be basket liners for a small gift basket.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Amanda Rosado: Well you could starch one for fruit bowl, use one for dusting, if one is big enough you could do the 50's pinup and use it for a bandana. Pin one with safety pins to your little ones shirt and he/she can have a cape haha. Im not very out there with dollies I grew up knowing the value in them so its hard to think of them as "outlandish"

  7. The round one reminds me of a chapel veil from back in the day. Why not try it, it's pretty enough!

  8. I was going to say doilies, but that one has been used, so I would say the smaller two could be coasters and the larger one could be used like a kerchief in a jacket pocket.

  9. Hmmmm, thats a hard one. I loooooove my crochet dish clothes which I have used for over a year now. They are due for a bump down to car wash clothes. They can be used to set bowls and pots on to protect the table or counter. They can be used to protect stacked pots and pans to keep from getting scratched up.
Thanks Granny & Goodluck Everybody =)

  10. General concurrence for doilies, but since the holes are big enough on the square ones, I can use them as a pattern for shaking powdered sugar/cocoa on cakes for that lacy designer look!

The round one could be used for a hot pad or a trivit, the square ones I would use to line a nice basket of homemade dinner rolls. They are very pretty!!

  12. Canning Grannie these are beautiful!! I can see a whole host of uses for them in my kitchen!! Would love to photograph them with some baked goods displayed ;) <3 ~ Pammy

  13. Debra S. The smaller two could be used as coasters and the larger one as a wall hanging. Since I collect eggs of all types, I would love to use these "pastel beauties" as part of my spring Easter display of my collection.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I would also let my daughter use them for rugs in her dollhouse. If she could get them away from me, that is!

    ReplyDelete
  15. They look too pretty to use as dish cloths. I think I'd use them as doilies as well.

My youngest has suggested that they would make great blankets for her dolls. :)

  17. Their are many uses for these wonderful cloths. I can use one of the dish cloths to wash the car. The doilies can be placed in a windowbox frame with flowers, possibly a picture and hung on the wall. These would be a great addition to any household. Especially mine.

  18. Sorry Granny, cant come up with anything new that's not already posted. But hey, a good dishcloth is hard to find so I'll just keep it simple and use it for intended purpose...lol

  19. What cute dish cloths. I'd use one to wave out the window at ya, as we travel to Arkansas this summer.
Maybe I could make a cute flower pin out of the round one and wear it proudly on my lapel.
And as for the 3rd one, why not pay it forward and keep on giving!

  21. okay I would place a clear plastic adhesive sheet on one side and attach to make a mobile and hang it in the window. :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. One would have to sit under my nice plate of homemade sausage Granny inspired. I could wrap the round.one around my cold can of beer, with a rubber and of course, to keep it cold, while I am snacking. ;)

  23. Right away my granddaughter would grab one for her barbies. One of the squares looks perfect to cover a barbie bed. The round one would look so cute with a little African Violet plant sitting on top. But if they make good dishcloths then I would want to have them sitting nice and pretty on my sink.

  25. I like using things like that as a washable strainer for sprouts and other things that need strained but are on the larger side. I also would use them for a pattern to make my own with as these look so handy to use.I can see my kids playing with them pretending they are spider webs from spiderman too.

  27. Cathy Burt, those are so pretty! The ones made with mesh are great to use to gently scrub poatoes. For those of us who love fried taters with the peeling on.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Those are so pretty. They remind me of ones my grandmother used to make! The colors are so spring like it makes me wish the winter was over.
And for dual uses, well before I'd resort to using them washcloths, I'd take the larger square ones, fold them in half, lace a long pretty ribbon through them, and make my daughter and I matching kerchiefs! The round one would be lovely threaded with a smaller width ribbon and pulled into a rose shape to be used as a lapel pin! I'm always thinking of how things can be made into rose shapes, as that is my daughter's name, and her favorite flower. ;] Good luck to all, and thanks for this neat give away!

  30. Ooo, what lovely dishcloths! There's space on my sink counter for that colorful square one. The round one could also adorn a handmade summer tote bag or an apron pocket. Any of them could fill in a too-revealing neckline. oo-la-la!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh I love those! Love the colours too. My mother-in-law knits dishcloths and I have been wanting to learn :)

I would make the most beautiful baby doll out of them. I had one when I was little that my gramma made for me out of dishcloths that she crochet and I loved it! It would be amazing to give one to my daughter too.

  36. The round one I'd put a hole in the middle and use it as a skirt on a Barbie doll, you then put the legs of the Barbie doll through a roll of Toilet Paper- take the smaller cloth and then make a top for her- There you have a cute toilet paper roll cover!
The large one I'd use for my kitchen. Sharon Brown

  41. I would probably use the round one as a coaster on my new to me desk I've been so picky about lately. And the rest possibly for dishes, or let my daughter have one to choose a use for. Nice job!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I know I'd have to keep them away from my toddler. He "stole" my last clean dishtowel for a blanket for his Elmo.

Or, you could use them as hammocks for dolls.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Me, I would probably frame at least one. Crochet is quickly becoming a lost art and I think one, maybe two would be so cute framed and put in a little girl's room. The colors are so pretty and would go almost anywhere. I can see children's pictures framed and hung around it. I have 2 very old crochet doilies framed and hanging in my sewing room. They were made by my great grandmother and each has one of her favorite sayings put onto the mat they are mounted on (I mount with very small pins). One reads "Make do with what you got." My mother still says that, and so do I on occasion.

Here's two ideas. The first: mount it on a wall and then use it to hang earrings and necklaces from. Second: it could be used in the garden as a seed planting guide. Prepare the soil, lay on top of soil, then poke the seeds through the holes into the ground for even spaced planting. Leave a few holes in between seeds for more space between plants.

  47. These look like doilies to me but more utilitarian. I would use under a plant pot to protect surface. As a trivet for a hot pot. Under a glass as a cushion.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I tried to do this yesterday but I couldn't get it to post. I will try again. Here are my ideas: Sew two of the square wash clothes together to use as a small produce bag at the market. Put a string, yarn, or ribbon around the outside of the round one and use it to cover a hair bun. That can also be used as gift wrap for a small gift, or to cover the top of a canning jar before it is given away as a gift or to be used as a decoration. Lay them on a lovely plate or small basket and put something decorative on them, like pretty shapes of soap. I make my own bars of skin softener and soap that would be very pretty. Use as skin exfoliators. Putting a little mold of soap and skin softener in one of the dish cloths as a gift wrap with a little note about how to use it as an exfoliator would be a great gift idea. I think they would look lovely stuffed in a pocket of a suit jacket maybe with a big pin to dress it up. They can be used for dolls as blankets, rugs, and if you put the dolls arms through the holes in one of the square ones and leave enough on top to be a nice collar, it makes a beautiful queens robe. Sring, yarn, or ribbon can be inserted so it can be used as a doll cape, skirt, or dress, also. My grandmother used to crotchet and she put some of her doilies (which those are just as pretty) in a picture frame with a black background a hung them on the wall. The house we bought has hooks on the cabinet door under the sink. Those dish cloths are so easy to put on the hooks to store and dry and they don't fall off like regular dish cloths. My mom has to have something rolled up in her hand to keep it from going into a tight fist. She would love those instead of the regular wash cloths because they are so pretty. I am not certain how to post this so I will try again. I am not good with the computer and I am new to these blogs. I know I am not supposed to send anonymous but I don't know how to do it any other way. Jan Inman servinginfaith@gmail.com

  49. Pamela Daw: I would use the round one as a type of hair snood to accessorize a victorian Steampunk outfit. The square ones could be folded and sewn onto a riboon as a type of victorian jabot but with a Steampunk flare. :)

  50. I am sorry, but they are just begging to be used to "prettify" something .. so I would put one in my mailbox for a nice place for my mail to rest while it waits for me... and another one would make either a great egg basket liner or ... nesting box liner, my girls would appreciate a pretty spot to lay.

  53. Great looking dishcloths. I have been making crochet dishcloths out of #10 bedspread cotton for about 52 years now. I use them all the time. They make great gifts. As for the square ones in particular, I might wrap one up around a bar of soap with a cord woven through the edge rows to make a soap on a rope for the shower. Love the bright colors. Crochet dishcloths are great for separating china plates in the cupboard to avoid chipping. This is the first time I have been to your facebook page and blog. They both are great and I intend to return frequently.

My daughter makes mine, really nice to have, except I don't wash dishes with them...use them for hot pots on the counter, coasters under cups, in sewing room to pin notes or pattern instructions, scrubbing root veggies, washing the dog, wiping down the clothes line (stays clipped to the line) and just to look pretty on the board over my desk.

  55. As they are very pretty I would add buttons and make some little girl the perfect diaper cover maybe not so silly but would be really cute

I would use them as a trivet or pot holder. Pretty enough to use as a doily (which I love to use). I think you could probably use confectioner's sugar and decorate a cake using them (instead of the paper doilies). Also, could be used in a shadow box or picture frame. [Our daughter made a shadow box with some of my husband's grandmother's keepsakes hung inside the box, along with the keepsakes was a doily that she had crocheted with very thin (less than size 10) crocheting thread. Beautifully done.] Someone made and give to me one Christmas a crocheted dish towel made of cotton thread, I do not think the polyester blend would work as well.

  68. Pat from Lawnless Trials Goes Homesteading. Practical me wants to use them for people washers instead of dishwashers, but you want something more creative. Include them as part of a collage along with other old-fashioned kitchen helpers like wooden spoons, or with some other theme.

  72. Good Morning! I would use the dish cloths as covers when I attempt to make ginger beer again - they're light & airy and would allow the beneficial yeasts in but keep the little buggies out!

  73. Much to pretty to use myself. I think i would save them to add to a gift basket for my next friend that has a house warming party! Hand made pretties are a rarity these days and i love things like this.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I can't really determine what size they are, but if the square one was large enough, I'd use it as a diaper cover for my 7 month old. What a cute little summertime out fit for a little girl!

  77. I think in this day and age it may seem outlandish to give them as a baby shower gift. I would add the history and creator in a short but informational report. The goal would be that the baby would grow up with the beautiful handmade work, hopefully be inspired to carry on the tradition, and teach her own children the value of handmade items. She'd also learn you don't have to buy a wand sponge every two months to wash dishes. I would use them to teach my Grand Daughter due in April a lifetime of lessons. Regardless if I am chosen or not I do appreciate the time, effort, love, kindness, and forethought within every stitch, they are beautiful. The marketing of industry wants to saturate children with their products from cradle to grave and one by one we can reverse this madness of consumerism teaching one child, one family, one generation at a time,be blessed.
